 THIAGO FRATUCE

       Thiago is a classical guitarist, teacher and music video producer from Sao Paulo, Brazil. He holds a Masters degree from Mannes School of Music of The New School under the direction of Frederic Hand and Michael Newman, and a Bachelor’s and Teaching degree in History from University of Sao Paulo. In Brazil, he studied with Italo Peron, Everton Gloeden, and Henrique Pinto – one of his main mentor- with whom he formed a duo from 2007 to 2010.
 

       He has appeared as a soloist at the XVI and XVIII Souza Lima Guitar Seminars, and at Project Guitar at the Museum of Art of Sao Paulo (Projeto Violao No MASP). He has also played with Maestro Eduardo Escalante, soprano Adriana Bernardes, and in 2010, joined the contemporary dance group called Cia Da Estrela. Passionate about music education, in 2004 and 2005, he conceived and coordinated the I and II Guitar Concert Series of Brasílio Machado Public School. Before moving to New York in 2014, he kept a guitar trio with Márcio Alexandre Alves and Donaldo Enrique Diaz, and worked at Villa-Lobos Music Conservatory and Adv Artistic Production.
 

       In New York, he performed new music with Trio Almathi (Alexandria Smith, trumpet; Matt Leece, electric guitar; Thiago Fratuce, classical guitar/bass) at The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Spectrum, and the Mannes College. As a soloist, he has performed at The New England Guitar Society, Bloomsburg University, and collaborated in projects with the opera singers Allie Mazon and Ginny Weant. He has also performed in masterclasses with the Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo, Vladislav Blaha, Jason Vieaux, Jorge Caballero, Peter Evans, Ben Vendery, Mario da Silva, Arthur Kampela, Elliott Sharp and Fred Frith. In 2016, he formed a classical guitar duo with Christian Berrigan and has already performed at The Music of Fred Hand at The Purchase College Conservatory of Music. He also worked as a videographer and was part of Revival, a spiritual folk rock performance, featuring original story-driven music by Kristen Plylar-Moore (www.revivaltheshow.com). 

 

       Now back to São Paulo, he is studying music composition for films and tv, and pursuing a Ph.D. music degree abroad. Thiago takes inspiration from classic movie directors, world music, avant-garde music, critical theory, counterculture, and spirituality.
